By Jasmine Anderson

If  your  bedroom  is  quite  small  and you want to make it seem visually bigger, look no further because we're here to help you out! Here  are five great ways to make a small bedroom look bigger, so keep on reading, check them out, and get down to business right away!

First of all, get rid of clutter

Truth  be told, no bedroom can look large when it's cluttered with unnecessary stuff. That's right! decluttering your bedroom is the easiest way to open up your space and make it seem bigger. Start with little trinkets and similar knick knacks that belong in other rooms  of  your  home. Put them back where they belong and get rid of anything that you don't need in your bedroom. Of course, it doesn't  mean  that  you  should  make it completely sterile. On the contrary. all you need to do is to cut the unnecessary load and keep just a few pieces such as photos, paintings, or similar decorative items. That's the key to success!

Keep your furniture in scale

Even though many people  think that  small  furniture is an absolute must in small bedrooms, it doesn't have to be the case at all. However, there is one thing you need to bear in mind. You must make sure to keep your furniture in scale., which means that  everything  should  be sized appropriately for your space.  For example, two tiny nightstands will look silly next to a huge king-size bed, right? To prevent that, choose a bed that'll allow  you  to  fit  at  least one nightstand that’s large enough to match  it  when  it  comes  to  size. Also, remember that tall and narrow  pieces  work  better  in  smaller  rooms  than  wide  and short ones. It can help you find the perfect proportion.

Opt for the perfect area rug

Needless  to  say, area rugs can make your small bedroom look bigger â€" as long as you pick the right size. One of the most common mistakes  people  tend  to  make  is  selecting  a too-small area rug. Such a piece will make the entire room look disjointed and even smaller  than it is. This is the last thing you want, so remember that the optimal size of your rug depends on different factors. Firstly, bear in mind that all of the furniture should be sitting atop the rug. If that’s impossible, at least the front legs of larger pieces should be on the rug.   As  for  the colour, you should definitely pick lighter tones that will make your space look visually bigger. All you have to do is to visit your local carpet warehouse and look for the best area rug for your bedroom. It really is as simple as that!

Use vertical space

When  your  bedroom  is  too  small  and  doesn’t  have enough space  on  the  floor,  the best thing you can do is to use vertical space!  When  we  say  that,  we  mean  that  you  should use an entire  wall,  from  the  ceiling to the floor. Apart from giving you extra  storage  space, this trick will make your room seem larger than  it  actually  is.  For example, floating shelves are a fantastic idea. However, be sure not to overload them with heavy items â€" especially  if  you  install  them  above  your bed. Skip the books and  go  for lighter items, such as photos and similar decorative pieces.   Also,  you can paint the shelves the same colour as the walls for an even better visual effect!

Choose furniture with legs

Last  but  certainly  not  least,  furniture  with  legs  is  another  essential  you’ll need in your small bedroom. Even though it probably seems  a  bit  irrelevant,   the  truth is that this can create an open, airy feel in your bedroom. Of course, not every piece of furniture needs  to  be  legged.   For example, a bed and a nightstand will be more than enough to create this unique feel. Apart from making your  room  look  visually  bigger,  it  can  provide  additional  storage  space, too. All you have to do is to slide your stuff underneath your bed, and voila â€" extra storage space is guaranteed!

As  you  can  tell,  there are so many amazing ways to make your small bedroom look bigger. These five are the best ones out there, so  give  them  a try and you’ll see what we were talking about. Just stick to our tips and you’ll make it happen, without a shadow of a doubt!
