Whether you want to replace the carpeting in a property you've just bought, or a home you're planning to sell, deciding on a new flooring can be difficult. Don't make a hasty flooring faux pas' take your time to make a decision that you or future residents will love for years to come. Consider the following before you replace your carpet.
If carpeting is still appealing where you want to replace the flooring, you may want to just upgrade the carpet. Plenty of spaces benefit from carpeting such as living rooms or playrooms so it can be beneficial to keep the soft flooring rather than installing harder surfaces. Consider the purpose of your room before deciding on a new type of flooring.
Pet owners may not want any carpet in their homes to cut down on the buildup of harmful allergens. Also, if you're concerned about children spilling or otherwise messing up a nice new carpet, it may not be the best decision for you.
Budgets mean different things for different types of flooring. Those with a lower budget should be able to afford a mid-range carpet or a sleek laminate floor, but that may require more maintenance in the future. With a low enough budget, you may even consider avoiding the full replacement and aim to simply deep-clean the existing carpet. A homeowner with a higher budget will be more able to afford a luxurious carpet or hardwood.
When trying to put your home on the market, make it easy for your real estate agent to advertise your property. Put careful thought into it and pay attention to the target buyers you want to attract. A family may be searching for a home with cozy carpets, while a buyer with a taste for elegance may look for beautiful hardwood floors.
