How To Make a Good First Impression As a Real Estate Agent

By Kayla Beirne

Regardless  of  how  long  youâ've  been  in  the  business,  every  new  client  is  meeting  you for the first time. For all your skill, every customer is new territory. You need to feel out who they are and what they're looking for. Their first impression of you will stick with them no matter what  happens  afterward. Put your best foot forward with the following tips and pointers on how to make a good first impression as a real estate agent.

Dress Sharp

Unless  you're  in  the  casual  business,  distressed  jeans and a faded   t-shirt   will   not  exude  professionalism.  Dress  so  you appear  professional  yet  approachable, finding that sweet spot between  sloppy and too severe. You can never go wrong with a suit, but be sure everything is clean, pressed, and free of stains. Finally,  don’t  go  for  sex  appeal  with  too much exposed skin. Some clients find it more off-putting than enticing.

Timing Is Everything

No  one  will  ever  fault  you for being too early, but no one will forget if you are late. Your clients’ time is as precious as your own,  and  it shows a remarkable level of presumption to assume a first-time customer will let your lateness slide even once. If  you  are  going  to  be unavoidably late due to circumstances beyond your control, head it off by calling and alerting them, apologizing,  and  offering  to  reschedule  or  make  amends.  But  it  goes without saying, a schedule is a series of promises. Break one and the others will likely fall.

Your Car Is Your Business Partner

Take  good  care  of  your  car.  Along with your smartphone, it’s your most valuable tool, shuttling you from showing to showing and  client  to  client. Choose a brand and model that speaks to your  successes  but  pick one that’s known for its reliability and durability.  A  hot  model  is only a hindrance if it keeps breaking down   on   its   way   to   appointments.  Take  it  in  for  regular checkups,  keeping  track  of  issues  that  could  signal  a bigger problem.   Ensure   the   wheels   are   inflated   to  their  proper pressure and regularly inspected and rotated.

Keep  your  car  running  happily  and  healthily  by  checking  and  topping  off  all fluids. When you pull up to a showing, a smooth-running ride promises a smoother experience for clients.

Get Real

Want to know how to make a good first impression as a real estate agent? Get in touch with sincerity. Greet new clients with a  smile  and a  handshake strong enough to let them know you’re reliable and trustworthy. You may feel the urge to turn on the  charm  and  act  in  a very “big” way, but customers can sense inauthenticity. Do your homework beforehand so you can answer their questions and share the right information. Your customers will appreciate it.
