This 3.94 acre parcel near the end of Old Buckman Road is a rare opportunity. Just 2 miles from the the geologically stunning and historically rich Diablo Canyon Recreation Area and the 1.5 miles to the Rio Grande, it offers proximity to some of Santa Fe's most sought after spots for hiking, fishing, rock climbing, and river rafting, all within 20 miles of the plaza! Ideal for an outfitting basecamp , rural residence or getaway destination.3.94 acre parcel of pinon-juniper forest and grass prairie in the mesa-lined foothills. Close to the Rio Grande river, big rocks and trails of Diablo Canyon. The lot is a hilly but has flat areas to lay a foundation and build. The soil is mostly clay. The property line abuts National Forest Land and other private properties. Gorgeous views of the surrounding landscape. There are no structures or fencing on the property currently. Zoning and land use must be confirmed with Santa Fe County. An NM Gas Company line runs through the property, but there are no electric or water lines on site. The area is remote enough to immerse oneself in nature, but accessible enough to bring camping equipment or even plan a day trip. Hikers of all ages and skill levels come here. Some admire the beauty from a distance, others walk through the winding path, and others take extreme challenges in rock climbing. On the river, many take part in rafting and fishing, too. n/a n/a n/a Santa Fe boasts 360 days of sunshine, and at 7,000 feet in elevation, four robust seasons. Skiing, snow showing, snowboarding, cycling, rock climbing, river rafting, fishing and hunting are all common outdoor activities in the area. The late summer does have a monsoon season with sporadic rainfall, and we do get snow in the winter, but most of the time the air is crisp, the sun is shining and the beauty is imminent. Diablo Canyon is a part of the Caja Del Rio plateau formation. This beautiful desert gorge includes prehistoric petroglyphs from the Native Americans who lived in and traversed the area, desert wildlife, indigenous plants, volcanic rock formations, and the flowing waters of the Rio Grande. It is situated near the northern end of the Cerros del Rio volcanic field, which includes about 50 to 60 identified volcanic vents that experienced dozens of eruptions about 2.4 to 2.7 million years ago. The whole canyon is scattered with dark-colored rocks covered with tiny bubble-shaped cavities, that were expelled from the earth as molten blobs and solidified in the air, sometimes building up in cinder cone shapes as well. At one point the canyon even had a lava lake! The geology, history and nature in this place are stunningly unique. It is an otherworldly place and captures the imagination. The property is a 40 minute drive to Santa Fe's downtown plaza, and all the amenities of city life, mostly down a maintained gravel county road. The nearest airport is the Santa Fe airport, at the South end of the city, a 20 minute drive from the plaza.
