Commercial Property in Plano, TX

The Harrington House estate is an important part of Texas history. Built in 1918 by "Big Dad" Fred Harrington, it is the remaining piece of what was once a 200-acre farm and still stands as an important homestead while the city of Plano and entire Dallas Metroplex grew up around it. The estate's remaining 3.88+/- acres contains the first original home, designed by architect Robert Abernathy. Historical designation of the property can be considered by new owner if desired. The main home was built solidly to withstand the north Texas weather. In November of 1918 it was described by The Plano Star Courier as a "magnificent brick residence, provided with all the modern conveniences such as are usually only found in the city homes." As you enter the magnificent residence you are greeted by a beautiful living room with an impressive staircase and baby grand piano with a parlor on one side and over-sized dining room on the other. There four huge bedrooms and 2.5 baths on two levels with remarkable detail millwork, materials and fixtures throughout. The home is approximately 4000 sq ft. The quarter-sawn oak floors are amazing. The tile, glass doorknobs, custom chandeliers and light fixtures are all original to the home. The Ludowici tile roof boasts of the quality this home exhibits in and of itself. It is evident that no expensive was spared building this stunning home. There is also a basement and large finished out attic. As you walk out the back door by way of a sidewalk you find a detached 2 car brick garage that also contains two other adjacent rooms. Many of the original antiques still remain. There is also a two-bedroom, one-bath farmhouse on the homestead now and it has undergone some renovation and has been restored to very nice condition. Built in 1928, by Fred's daughter, it was moved in 2000 and now stands on an engineered pier and beam concrete support with large rooms, original wooden doors and glass doorknobs and a Rookwood tile fireplace front. It is approx. 1,800+/- sf. There have been significant upgrades to plumbing and electrical on both homes. The property has historical value but is also located in a prime infill location a mile from Hwy 75 & 190 (George Bush). It is surrounded by office buildings, a high school, and retail. The Collin Creek mall site is nearby where a $1 billion 100-acre redevelopment is taking place to build 2,300 apartments, a hotel, and offices. The new fine arts center is down the street within one half mile and there is a DART pick up in front of the residence.
