La Kiva was originally built in or around 1979 by Gil Felts to serve as a bar & restaurant. It offers city water and electricity with a septic tank. It was built on Terlingua Creek, a semi-subterranean complex with rock walls up to 4 Ft. thick. The history of La Kiva is rich with stories but Gil passed away just a few years after completing La Kiva yet to despite that, he left a lasting mark on the community. Over the years La Kiva has been featured in various movies, books & TV documentaries. "La Kiva" is a room used by Puebloans for rites and political meetings, many of them associated with the kachina belief system. Among the modern Hopi and most other Pueblo people, kiva's are large room that is circular and underground and used for spiritual ceremonies. This was purchased by the new owner and totally rebuilt, from top to bottom. There are a few camping spots for tent campers & room for many other improvements. The owners now live on the property.
